East Boston is tormented by the threats of climate change. The risks that come along with it, such as the rising sea level, are mostly fought individually. Newly designed areas are built to endure such developments whereas the existing architectural landscape will not stand the test of time. Creating a sense of community by bringing both worlds together aims for resilience. A strength much needed at the lowest point of the bank of East Boston. Connecting communities through public space, encapsulating them with communal amenities like the local radio and the fire department. It’s a centre for the entire community, an interweaving city within a building. This project was a design assignment as part of the exchange program with the Boston Architectural College.
